A Shot in the Dark Qualifying Round Coffee - New Oriente Moyuta, Guatemala

Okay, so, FULL DISCLOSURE FIRST: this isn't a coffee you'd typically find on our offer list (we've got an 85+ point minimum threshold for single estate coffees). However, this enjoyable Guat still brews a delish cup.

BACKSTORY SECOND: a few weeks ago we took part in the Coffee Magazine’s ‘A Shot in the Dark’ roasting competition. This coffee was supplied to 50+ roasters for the qualifying round and each had to submit a sample of their roast for assessment. We cracked the top 10 at 6th place with our submission – no one wants to peak too early, right? We'll be looking to improve on that in the finals round.

TL;DR: We thought a few folks out there might enjoy a taste of our approach to roasting this lot. It's a tasty little number with crisp malic acidity, moving into sweet milk choc and a finish of almond, particularly present as marzipan.

PLUS BONUS VIBES: 100% of the purchase price will go straight to our cafe and roastery teams.

LIMITED AVAILABILITY: yup, there are only about 20-odd boxes of this, and roasts may be a few weeks old at time of purchase.
